This study aimed to determine the protein intake and percentage of organ weight in broilers fed rations containing fermented leaves and seeds from the rubber tree (FLSRT) as a substitute for soybean meal. The results of this study are also expected to reduce the use of imported feed ingredients and feed ingredients that compete with human needs, such as soybean meal.

This research was performed to explore the impacts of guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) supplementation of fish diets with variable energy contents on the growth performance and blood serum parameters of Nile tilapia fish. Nile tilapia Juveniles with an average weight of 20 g were cultured in glass aquaria and fed four formulated pelleted diets for 60 days. Our experiment was divided into four experimental groups: the first group (G1) was fed a basic control diet without any GAA supplementation. The other experimental groups, G2, G3 and G4, were fed diets with different levels of energy (25, 50 and 75 kcal/kg less than in the control, respectively) and supplemented with 0.06% GAA.

While the gap is widening between developed and developing countries in the field of classical animal genetics and breeding, genomic tools are becoming the method of choice in developed countries. The objectives of this study were to 1) demonstrate by a real case how the lack of suitable breeding strategies can be a major threat to autochthonous sheep breeds improvement and 2) show how genomic tools could be an efficient alternative tool to reverse the decrease of native breed productivity. A total of 54,476 fat tail Barabrine lambs from 77 flocks recorded during the period 2010-2014 were used in this study.

Near East and North Africa have 90 percent of their territory classified as arid or semi-arid rangelands. Increasing importation of animals and animal products are still followed due to an increasing consumers’ demand and poor producing abilities of existing native breeds. The objectives of this paper were to: 1) underline major genetic constraints for improving native sheep breeds productivities under low input production systems, 2) identify main ingredients and pathways for sustainable sheep breeding strategies under low input production systems.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma with a small cell pattern is a rare T-cell lymphoma. This condition is frequently seen in young patients and should be considered in patients presenting with leucocytosis and constitutional symptoms. We report a case of small cell variant (SCV) of ALCL in a 68 year old man diagnosed by ALK immunohistochemistry (IHC) and cytogenetic analysis. The limitations of using only morphology in diagnosing this rare variant, has also been emphasised.

Anaemia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. While adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART) reduces the incidence of anaemia, non-adherence (defaulting) to ART is associated with a number of haematologic derangements including anaemia. However, the mechanisms and predictors of anaemia have not been examined among ART defaulters in western Kenya. This study, therefore, aimed at evaluating the anaemia prevalence and classification of the anaemia based on haemoglobin (Hb) concentrations and erythrocyte morphology as well as suppression of erythropoiesis in ART-defaulting adults at a comprehensive care clinic in western Kenya.

It was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted in the nine (09) pavilions of Aplahoue District Hospital (Benin). The choice was exhaustive because of the small number of employees. The techniques used for data collection consisted of a survey questionnaire and direct observation when providing health care or services. Comparisons of proportions were made using the chi-square test. To search for associated factors, a univariate analysis of the data by simple linear regression was performed using Fisher’s statistical test with a p value considered significant at a 5% threshold.
